 Preventative Professional Teeth Cleaning

 Preventative Professional Teeth Cleaning

Plaque and tarter that sits on the teeth provides an environment, which allows bacteria to thrive and multiply.  The bacteria cause the gums to become inflamed and bleed. The condition becomes more noticeable when you brush your teeth or sometimes when you eat. These are signs of the early stage of gingivitis.

Nonsurgical Gum Care

Nonsurgical Gum Care

The foundation of your smile is your gums, bone, and soft tissue.

You may not know that gum or periodontal disease is the second-most common disease affecting people after the common cold. It is estimated that 75% of the population has some form of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is a more advanced condition affecting the foundation of the teeth, and beyond gingivitis. Frequent, regular brushing and flossing may not be enough to combat it. Neither are regular professional cleanings.

That’s why you need Dr. Clifton’s Soft-Tissue Management Program. It’s a specific series of in-office treatments designed to eliminate gum disease and detoxify tooth surfaces below the gum line and in between the teeth. It includes:

  • Root planing & scaling – Our first goal all comes down to “if we can have a clean tooth surface, we can have heathy gum and bone.”  Our initial non-surgical treatment, once the area is numb so you are comfortable, cleans the roots of teeth, making sure to remove all deposits and infection-causing bacteria.
  • Regular professional maintenance cleanings - The second goal of our Soft Tissue Management is similar.  “If we can keep the teeth clean, we can prevent the disease from coming back.”  Dr. Clifton will recommend the best time period between your dental hygiene visits. This will ensure that you maintain healthy gums and bone.
  •  Site Specific Antimicrobial Treatment – Following scaling and root planing there may be areas that present an increased risk for reoccurring gum disease. Your dentist can treat these sites with a local antibiotic treatment (Arestin) to give them the best opportunity to heal in a way that healthy tissue can be maintained.

Remember: You can control gum disease. With careful, ongoing monitoring by your dentist, regular maintenance treatments with our hygienist, and good daily home care, you can keep your gums healthy and preserve your natural smile. Call today and schedule your time with Dr. Clifton for the healthy smile you have always wanted. We look forward to serving you!
