Implant Retained Denture or Fixed Hybrid

Replacing missing teeth with implant retained fixed denture or Hybrid

If you lose a tooth, it is best for your oral health to have it replaced. Missing teeth can affect your “bite” as well as your ability to speak and chew. Their loss can increase the burden on your remaining teeth leading to a “domino effect” of failing teeth. Muscle pain in your jaws and headaches can also result from inadequate and dysfunctional bite. And of course, losing a tooth can affect your appearance. The following information reviews replacing missing teeth with an implant retained denture or what is called a hybrid.

Although some patients may be able to manage wearing an upper denture, some people find it difficult to wear and eat with lower dentures. The best, most reliable, most like natural teeth is the fixed hybrid.

Implant Supported and Retained Denture or Fixed Hybrid

This involves placing six implants in your jaw and attaching a denture we call a hybrid. It is like a bridge in that it mainly replaces the teeth, but does not have the unnecessary bulk of a denture that covers the roof of your mouth or extend down past the top ridge of the gums. It is something in between these two and why it is called a hybrid. This fixed hybrid will replace all your missing upper and/or lower teeth, is held in place to the implants by small screws, and does not come out, except at maintenance visits. This less bulky and low profile option is the most like your natural teeth, allows you to fully taste your food and gives you a better sense of its temperature. This is especially important for those that may not be able to tolerate a conventional complete upper denture, or like many find that the lower denture is very difficult to keep in place.

Implant Retained Upper Fixed Hybrid

It may be possible to eliminate the need for covering the roof of your mouth with a complete denture. This option allows you to fully taste your food and gives you a better sense of its temperature. Fixed on implants and not removable, your implant fixed denture, known as a fixed hybrid, will feel and work more naturally.
